Over time we developed advanced abilities in computational fluid dynamics analysis for industry and have performed thermodynamic modelling for various mining applied research problems. We have developed proprietary code to establish the impact of liquid air chilling over the entire mine.
In 2008 we conceptualised the use of liquid air for deep mining and are currently designing and developing a unique suite of technologies to enable the benefits of liquid air on a mine site.
The development of the initial 350 kW LAES pilot plant near Slough in the United Kingdom by Highview Power Storage Inc. was a turning point in the energy storage field, but the current Highview Power Storage project in collaboration with Virador to prove out the larger scale technology with a 5 MW test facility Pre-commercial LAES Technology Demonstrator is the technological ground work needed for the mining industry to bring forth the change needed at the project level by adopting cryogenic technology.
The Dearman Engine Company is on a trajectory that may enable large underground equipment to operate on liquid air, which would provide power to vehicles and chilling for the mine simultaneously. This technology is capable of replacing diesel powered equipment and may prove to be competitive with electric equipment. The added benefit of an engine that provides both power and chilling may tip the balance when the long term cost benefit analysis is completed.
The business model of CanMIND is to assemble a consortium of like-minded associates with complimentary expertise. At present we have Non Disclosure Agreements with several advanced technology development partners, notably The Dearman Engine Company and Highview Power Storage both are international corporations stationed the United Kingdom. Our current project the Cryofan© is supported by The Ultra Deep Mining Network in association with CEMI the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation.
We are scientists, engineers and professionals with the many years of scientific research and engineering design experience, project management and procurement experience, advanced academic standing and recognition by engineering counsels and scientific bodies such as the The IOM3 The Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining in the United Kingdom the The PEO The Professional Engineers Ontario and The CAP The Canadian Association of Physicists.
